Reigning Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of Consistency
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a record £11m in prize money.
She garnered nearly 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a new level".
Other WTA Award Honorees
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a 13-month break after the arrival of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
