Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolves.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend after the squad's ten-game without a victory start to the Premier League season.

And both candidates - each of whom have previous associations to the team - are part of the options to be evaluated by the club ownership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential hurdle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

However the former Luton head coach - who played more than 100 of games for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club board as they begin the process of hiring a fresh head coach.

Gary O'Neil is additionally appearing as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham player is out of work meaning the club would not need to provide any buyout fee.
